The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US $131,836 for the Project for Construction of Tat Kone Ywar Ma Basic Education Middle School in Myitkyina Township, Kachin state.
The handover ceremony of a school for the above project took place in Myitkyina Township, Kachin State on 29 April, 2019. Mr. Naoya Kishi, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Nay Win, Minister for Social Affairs of Kachin State, committee chairperson, committee members of the construction project and local residents attended the ceremony.
Tat Kone Ywar Ma Basic Education Middle School was unable to accept all the students in this region due to lack of space. Since the school also received students from nearby refugee camp, construction of a new school building was urgently needed. In addition, as existing buildings were in poor condition, students had to study in a crowded space without proper partitions. In order to secure a safe learning environment, the Government of Japan provided assistance for constructing a two-story reinforced concrete building with 8 classrooms with full furniture and lavatories. The project benefits 564 students attending the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 904 grass-roots projects, including 467 education projects, 200 healthcare projects, 140 public welfare and environment projects, 61 infrastructure projects and 36 others in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993. This assistance is expected to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
